The past few years have been busy ones for Shelburne Falls Yoga and for its director, Kate Pousont Scarborough. Since taking ownership of the studio in 2011, Kate has completed an Advanced Professional Yoga Teacher Training at Kripalu Center, attained the highest level of teaching certification through the Yoga Alliance, and returned to assist and facilitate in yoga teacher trainings at Kripalu. At home, Shelburne Falls Yoga has quietly continued to expand. Known for their physical and philosophical sophistication and their accessibility to students of all backgrounds, Kate’s classes have become popular gathering places for dedicated yoga students from West County and beyond. With a full schedule of classes and regular visits from renowned guest teachers, Shelburne Falls Yoga continues to establish its reputation as a growing center for spirituality and health. In addition, Kate has recently co-founded two new organizations working in conjunction with Shelburne Falls Yoga, Living World Yoga and EARTHjourneys.

Beginning September 2014, Shelburne Falls Yoga will host the Living World Yoga 200-hour Interdisciplinary Yoga Teacher Training. Inspired by the teachings of Swami Kripalu, a yoga master known for his deep and compassionate spiritual practice, this training will provide trainees the opportunity to learn firsthand the power and depth of the practice of yoga and the tools to effectively teach this practice to others. Living World Yoga will offer an experiential weekend immersion training one weekend per month from September to June. The curriculum combines ancient practices with modern innovation, offering trainees the tools to apply the teachings directly to their own lives and the ability to create an effective experience for a range of students. Living World Yoga will be co-directed by Kate Pousont Scarborough and Marije E. Paternotte with special guest instructors Devarshi Steven Hartman and Grace Jull. The training is for passionate students of yoga who would like to gain a deeper understanding of themselves through the practice of yoga, and for those who wish to teach this practice to others. Registration information will be available soon.

EARTHjourneys is the result of an ongoing artistic collaboration between Kate Pousont Scarborough and musician and filmmaker Loren Feinstein. EARTHjourneys, which has seen various incarnations including performance projects and an ongoing workshop series in the past years, is pleased to announce the release of its first CD this November. Drawing from a number of past projects, Loren and Kate have produced EARTHaware featuring Loren Feinstein’s original compositions performed on a range of instruments. EARTHaware is ideal for casual listening and was also designed to complement a yoga practice or class. Through sounds ranging from calming to stirring, the music invites the listener into a grounded space and encourages a sense of connection to the natural world. Kate and Loren invite you to celebrate with us at our CD release party, Saturday November 23 at Shelburne Falls Yoga at 7:30pm for light refreshments, dancing, and great music.
