“A Summer Day on the Buckland Common” will be held Saturday July 29, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This event is being held on the historic Buckland Center Common located at the corners of Upper and Cross Streets in front of the Church and at other venues along Upper Street in Buckland Center. Intended for individuals of all ages, the day’s activities are offered thanks to a collaboration of several Buckland organizations including the Mary Lyon Church, the Buckland Historical Society, the Buckland Union Cemetery Association, the Buckland Public Library and the Bird’s Nest Bed & Breakfast. To be held rain or shine, with free parking and free admission, there will be entertainment, book sales, tag, art and crafts sales, displays, demonstrations, early American children’s games, tours and more.

The Buckland Public Library will open at its usual 9 a.m. A magician will perform there at 11 a.m. and throughout the day there will be a book sale and an exhibit of matryoshka, wooden nesting dolls in the Russian tradition. Buckland artist Cynthia Fisher, of Big Bang Mosaics, will demonstrate her craft at noon on the Common. The Shelburne Falls Military Band will perform a free concert at 1 p.m.  All day there will be a Quilt & Textile Show at the Bird’s Nest Bed & Breakfast and the Buckland Historical Society Museum will be open. The Buckland Riders Snowmobile Club will have a display with information about membership and the trails they ride.  The Cemetery Association is offering a self-guided tour of Taylor Cemetery located just west of the Common. Throughout the day Historical Society members will be selling their famous Buckland Blueberry Buckle, a delicious treat. There will be guided walking tours of historical places of interest at 11:15 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. Prints and cards featuring landscape images by artist Robert Strong Woodward (1885-1957), who was a Buckland Center resident for many years, will be on sale.   A lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs will be available for sale.
